What should I consider when buying a pool lift or spa hoist?
The choice of your pool lift chair or disability hoist will depend on the swimming pool, hot tub or spa pool that you wish to gain access to. If the pool or hot tub is fully in ground you can choose from a portable or fixed lift, whereas if the pool or hot tub are walled or partially above ground; your choices are limited to a fixed lift/hoist.
Additional considerations are how far the disability lifting equipment needs to be able to reach to get someone into the water safely and how high it will need to raise up to clear any walls, curbs or other obstacles.
Is the pool or hot tub inside? This too could limit choices or require a customisation so we can fit it into a low ceiling application. Be aware of ceiling heights and know that even if a lift looks like it is not tall, once you raise it all the way up, it may extend beyond a typical 8 foot high ceiling. Confirm the overall lift height with the product specifications.
What mounting surface is needed to fix a pool or spa hoist?
Most pool lifts or pool hoists will have multiple anchoring options and some are completely portable. The Pool Lift Company offers anchoring options for concrete or tiled floors, wood decks as well and patio areas for most of our lifts.
Modification of your deck or mounting surface may be required in some situations. Be prepared with measurements, photos, and possibly some local, qualified professional contractor help.
The Pool Lift Company can offer installation on all of our lifts if required. We will also carry out a free-of-charge survey to assess the area prior to installation of your lift. We can indicate proper placement of anchors, provide recommendations and will work alongside your contractor if you are using another agency to carry out the work.
How much weight does your pool lift or hoist need to carry?
When choosing a pool lift or hoist, it’s essential to consider how much weight the equipment will need to support. Different lifts are designed with varying lifting capacities to accommodate a wide range of users. For example, the Ranger Fixed Manual Pool Lift offers a lifting capacity of up to 25 stone (158 kg), making it an excellent choice for smaller clubs, leisure centres, or private facilities that cater to a broad spectrum of individuals. This model is ideal where space and budget may be limited but accessibility is still a priority. However, when your lifting requirement exceeds 180 kg, your options become more restricted. In such cases, you may need to consider a more robust model. The Portable Pro Pool Lift stands out as one of the few on the market capable of lifting up to 28.5 stone (181 kg / 400 lbs). Lifts with higher weight capacities tend to be more expensive and may require a more complex and secure installation process.
